On behalf of the Pacific Regional Group of International Association of Wood Anatomist (IAWA), International Academy of Wood Science(IAWS), and the Indonesian Wood Research Society (IWoRS), we cordially invite researchers from all over the world to join us in theJoint Meetings for PRWAC 2017 (The 9th Pacific Regional Wood Anatomy Conference) and IAWS Meeting 2017 which are being organized at the same time with The 9th International Symposium of Indonesian Wood Research Society to be held at Harris Hotel and Residences, Kuta, Denpasar – Bali, INDONESIA, September 26 – 29, 2017.
These important joint meetings will be hosted by UniversitasGadjahMada in the famous island of Bali – Indonesia. The venue of the conference will be at Kuta beach and also close to many other places of interest in Bali.
The conference is going to provide platform for researchers to present recent results, for discussions and the exchange of information in wide scopes of wood science and technology including
- PRWAC: tree physiology and pathology, wood formation and cambial activity, dendrochronology (Tree ring analysis) & dendroclimatology, wood identification, wood quality, tropical hardwood and NWFP, paleobotany and archaeology, protection of endangered wood, wood utilization and environment, wood culture, general wood anatomy, cytochemistry: cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin, tree ring analysis, wood anatomy and processing, technique and technologies, and plant biomechanics.

Tree and forest provides renewable and environmental friendly of wood material and forest products which are useful and important for life, culture and civilization of people.The advantages properties and characteristics of wood bring it becomes a potential material for construction, engineering applications, renewable energy, and varieties high value added products. Recently, forest is dominated by less commercial species, small diameter trees, and inferior characteristics. Furthermore, wood materials are competing against non-wood materials which are less environmental friendly.
The increasing awareness of the people toward the important role of tree and forest for environment and climate changehave made the utilization of forest products become more and more critical. This situation led the people who work in the environmental related subject such as forestryand forest-industries, wood and forest researches shouldwork and think much harder and wisely.Therefore, studies in wood science and technology concerning to the sustainability of the environment and human life become more important. The results of these joint meetings will become the foundation of betterwood utilization and processing in the coming decades.
